I really like Elizabeth Arden’s fragrance line. For a fraction of other designers’ price range, they have complex, pleasant, truly charming compositions. I could easily praise the ambery floral classic Fith Avenue to the aptly named Green Tea (which smells just like a glass of sweet cold tea), but today I’ll review my very favourite offering from the brand: 2017’s White Tea.

Elizabeth Arden White Tea review

Created by Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Caroline Sabas and Guillaume Flavigny, White Tea is, in spite of its name, an iris-centered fragrance – although, with an important support of its title note.

The notes are hard to pick apart individually, as they come in a very smooth, well-blended style. There’s a first whisper of orange, creating a sense of sparkle rather making a “proper” citrusy impression, then immediately comes a gentle, non-salty but surely water-evoking marine note, with smooth and delicate herbal-green touches of clary sage and fern.

The heart shows non-rooty, non-carroty iris, white & mate teas. Now, I do love my carroty iris, and find that when “scrubbed off” too much of its earthy side, this note often ends up feeling a bit lifeless… In White Tea, however, the perfumers did a wonderful job avoiding that “boring” effect, and the purely-clean iris presented here still smells beautiful. Its delicate powderyness seems to melt into the dewy top notes, and the resulting texture is of a cool, creamy lotion. Less prominent, the transparent duo of tea notes supports this “iris cream” with their green freshness.

Finally, the base is all about a musky-sweet ambrette, softer than the one in the similar Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, with light but noticeable hints of calm woods and a drop of glossy amber.

Longevity is good, although not stellar, and the sillage – especially in the first hour – is quite noticeable for such a gentle-feeling scent.

Fragrance Impressions

Elizabeth Arden White Tea review

Notes: (Top) Mandarin orange, clary sage, fern, sea notes; (Heart) white tea, mate tea, white iris; (base) musk, ambrette seeds, tonka beans, exotic woods.

Colour Impression: White.

Evokes: A baggy white cotton shirt; sipping tea & reading in a fresh porch with a view of the sea.

Similar to: Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline; Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au thé blanc.

Season & Occasion: Summer, daytime, casual. Very serene, perfect for relaxing.

Conclusion

I would describe White Tea as fresh, watery, powdery, very clean and gentle, slightly herbal in a smooth, tea-like manner. It has a very serene aura, and feels relaxed, pretty and casually elegant, all at once. I love it!

In a way, this is a less transparent, creamier (and less spicy?) take on the soft white tea + musky-woody-amber-ambrette theme of Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au thé blanc. White Tea does have its own personality, but if you like the Bvlgari, there’s a good chance you’ll also like this.

My best blink purchase...

... and that although I buy very rarely blind.

I like tea very much, especially white and green teas, which is why the fragrance sounded very promising to me directly. When I then came across a very good offer, I decided to dare the Blinkauf and regretted it not for a second. After a month in my collection, White Tea is well on the way to become my signaturedurft.

For me, right now - where I spend a lot of time at home - it's the perfect feel-good scent. I spray it on, and immediately feel safe. I am enveloped in a soft creamy cloud. I see myself in white, comfortable clothes. I'm standing in a minimalist furnished apartment, making myself a white tea and ready to start a day.

The fragrance starts off a bit clinical at first, but that fades quickly. Then he smells fresh, creamy and woody at first. Over time, he loses a bit of freshness (but still smells very clean) and the white tea comes more to the fore. In the background I hear a slight floral sweetness.

After about 2 hours, the fragrance decreases in intensity, but is still well audible after 5 hours (with the appropriate body lotion even longer). For me, the fragrance is an All Arounder! Aside from nights out at clubs, I can see it working well at work, for sports, for every day, and especially at home. Also, as far as seasons go, I think it fits well everywhere except for the Christmas market.

Now I'm excited to look for more tea scents and am excited to try the other scents from the White Tea series!

What does white tea smells like?

A young white tea product usually has a smell of reed and weeds, but an aged white tea would have a smell of rice, barley and other cereals. This might just be the beauty of a white tea. The ever-changing tastes and smells give us the chance to grow old together with a tea, to sample every stage of its life.

This has a nice clean and fresh scent. I have a hard time finding a fragrance that doesn't give me a headache. I especially detest strong sweet fragrances. This has a nice subtle scent that is not overpowering.
