Cetaphil oil control facial moisturizer review năm 2024

I’ve lost count of the number of moisturisers I’ve tried. I’ve got extremely acne-prone, kinda oily-kinda-dry skin that’s – in all honesty – a bit of a nightmare.

Most moisturisers are either rich enough but break me out… or not rich enough but don’t break me out. So if you’re an acne-prone gal or guy like me, you’ll know that it’s pretty damn tricky to get the balance right.

Well, that’s what brought me to the Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion.

Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion review

This moisturiser claimed to be non-pore-blocking, light-weight and non-greasy, but nourishing enough to restore and hydrate sensitive or dry skin. On paper? Exactly what I needed.

But I know what you’re thinking. I don’t care what the brand says it’ll do – I care if it actually does what they say it’ll do. Well, you can find out if the Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion review lived up to its claims in my full review.

Key product benefits & claims

Product: Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion

“A light-weight non-greasy lotion specifically formulated with Avocado Oil to restore and hydrate dry or sensitive skin.” – Cetaphil

Key benefits & claims:

  • Specially formulated with a dermatologist-backed blend of Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) and hydrating Glycerin to help improve the resilience of sensitive skin
  • Defends against 5 signs of skin sensitivity, including a weakened skin barrier, irritation, roughness, tightness and dryness
  • Completely restores skin's natural moisture barrier in 1 week
  • Instantly soothes sensitive skin and hydrates skin for 48 hours
  • Dermatologist tested and clinically proven to be gentle on sensitive skin

Price: Around £16 for a 437ml bottle or £8.99 for 236ml. Often cheapest on Amazon.

The texture & consistency

The Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion has a thick, white, creamy consistency. It actually feels quite thick when you first get it out of the bottle – it’s not runny at all. Despite this, it absorbs fairly quickly and leaves the skin hydrated, with a very slight tackiness.

For me, it’s a perfect balance. My skin is left with a healthy glow, without so much glow that I end up having to blot or overdo it on the powder.

With that said, I think the ‘glow’ could be too much for very oily skin types. It doesn’t do anything to control oiliness and, as I said, even leaves skin slightly (only very slightly) tacky.

Not to worry, though, as you’d probably love the Cetaphil Hydrating Moisturiser – it’s much thinner, with a gel, rather than cream, consistency – so just try that one instead.

The results

In terms of moisture, this really does the job.

I have acne-prone skin, which means I use a fair few actives. Think tretinoin, glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide (not together, obv). For this reason, I’m fairly prone to dryness and flakey skin, especially around my nose, under my eyes and around my mouth.

(Yep, it gets really annoying.)

The good news? After using this consistently for a week, both morning and night, I noticed that the flakiness didn’t happen quite so often. It seemed to keep my skin fresher, more hydrated and more balanced, without being overly greasy.

The downside? I think it might have caused a few clogged pores. I’m not sure exactly what caused this, but it could potentially be due to Cetearyl alcohol, a fatty acid that some can be sensitive to.

I’d still say it’s worth a try. It’s non-comedogenic (should not clog pores) and it moisturises well, without being too heavy. My skin is just particularly fussy and it’s impossible to know which moisturisers will break you out unless you’ve actually tried them.

The scent

The Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion is fragrance-free and has no noticeable smell. Personally, I love this, as it means it’s more suitable for sensitive skin types! If you have very sensitive skin, I think this could be a winner.

The packaging

The Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion comes in a white, opaque, plastic bottle with green branding and a pump dispenser. It’s not exactly luxe packaging, but it does the job and the pump works well. I’ve never had any trouble getting the product out, despite almost being at the end of the bottle.

The price & where to buy

This stuff is a bargain. For around £8.99, you can buy a 236ml bottle, which has lasted me over 3 months so far. When you factor in delivery, Amazon often ends up cheapest, but make sure to shop around for 3 for 2 deals:

  • LookFantastic
  • Boots
  • Amazon

I’ve started slathering the stuff on my arms, too, because the bottle is lasting so god damn long!

Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion ingredients

AQUA, GLYCERIN, ISOPROPYL PALMITATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CETEARETH-20, PANTHENOL, NIACINAMIDE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, DIMETHICONE, PERSEA GRATISSIMA OIL, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS SEED OIL, PANTOLACTONE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, SODIUM BENZOATE, BENZYL ALCOHOL, CITRIC ACID. FIL.1745.V00

Stand out ingredients

  • Niacinamide has an endless list of proven benefits for the skin – it can support a healthy skin barrier, improve hydration and improve skin conditions including acne, rosacea and atopic dermatitis.
  • Glycerin is a natural moisturiser that protects against irritation and helps to restore the skin barrier.
  • Panthenol (also known as pro-vitamin B5) is a humectant, meaning it can help the skin to attract water and then hold onto it.
  • Persea Gratissima Oil (avocado oil) oil is a highly moisturising emollient oil that makes the skin smooth and nourished.
  • Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (sunflower seed oil) is loaded with nourishing fatty acids and traps moisture to keep the skin hydrated.

Normally I’d include a list of not-so-nice ingredients at this point, but there’s really nothing negative to shout about here.

Good for, bad for…

You’ve probably got the gist by now, but I’d definitely recommend the Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion for anyone with acne-prone skin that is on the drier or more sensitive side.

While I did find it clogged up my skin a little, I’m pretty sure that was just a me-issue. I’ve read loads of other reviews that claim this is the perfect moisturiser for dry, acne-prone skin. Plus, Cetaphil themselves claim that it’s non-comedogenic.

If your skin is oilier, I think you should give this a pass. It leaves a slight glow and tacky feeling to the skin and doesn’t control oil production at all. You might want to try the Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Moisturiser, instead!

If your skin is very dry, you might prefer something richer, such as the CeraVe Moisturising Cream, which I’ll be reviewing very soon.
