You CAN flash DD-WRT on here fairly easy. HOWEVER, you must use the older flash files ( http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=betas%2F2014%2F ) 06-23-2014-r24461 or earlier (from the writing of this review). Any of the newer firmwares cause WAN or Radio issues.

Once you know this its as simple as logging in and using the built in web-flash utility to flash over to full DD-WRT.

The unit itself provides good, strong connection on either radio (dual 2.4 & 5Ghz).

I bought my WHR-600 in March 2020, in Aug 2020 (now) it started failing, needing a reboot every morning.

The manufacturer, Buffalo, had this to say:

"The router you have is possibly a used device as the serial number provided shows it was manufactured back in 2013 and has not been sold by Buffalo for quite some time. The symptoms you are seeing can possible be from either malfunctioning firmware or a failing wireless antenna. I would recommend a factory reset and seeing if the issue persists after."

I've had to buy another wifi router. Not happy . I expected it to last more than 4 months

Figured this would be an easy buy as it is a Buffalo product. But that was not the case with this one. When I received this router I installed the latest firmware for Buffalo's website. Then configured it for my needs. Worked well for 2 weeks or so. Then spontaneously would restart at regular intervals. (approximately every 30 seconds-ish). I took several tries, but I was able to reset to factory between reboots. That did not correct the issue. I re-downloaded the firmware at a friends house and installed the firmware again. That did not bring it back. If left alone, it would start the reboot cycles again.

Spend a bit more and get a better router. This router is fine for basic needs but you may want to spend a bit more money and get something with more features. Buffalo is a good brand, I currently use Buffalo products and have never had any major issues with any of them.

Seems to work well, but sometimes I have trouble using one of the channels.

There are beta DD-WRT builds available for the WHR-600D now that allow for the full potential of the device to be utilized. I never bothered with the stock firmware, but DD-WRT is rock solid and despite being in beta I haven't encountered any problems with the two configurations I use (Access point and ethernet bridge). 5ghz performance is not great, but reduced penetration of walls and floors is one of the drawbacks of the 5ghz range. There are U.FL connectors on the board so I am considering external antennas, or because of the low the price I might just add another as a repeater. I wish it had gigabit and a USB port, but nothing in this price range does.

I had a Buffalo router before and I replaced it with this router. It has not disappointed me in the least. Great product for a great price.

Uh... questionable performance... I didn't realize dual banded meant it produced an entirely second network, and that network would have terriblely small range... buying new next time

The range for this router isn't great. We have a medium size 1500 sq. ft. Home. We had our router at one end of our home and a smart tv, cell' at the other end. There was no wifi to the TV and weak to non with my iPhone. I relocated the router to the centre of our home in the kitchen which didn't please my wife. To do it again I would look for another product.
