Nowadays, people tend to spend a lot of money traveling to their holiday resort

where they reserved before and without living in the local area. The causes of this

issue come from many differences between present tourists’ thoughts and

travellers’ tendency in the past. This essay will explain these differences and show

my opinion about this matter.

In my opinion, the major factor is that people are under pressure from their work

and study so that they consider travelling is basically a way to unwind rather than

find out new cultures. In the workplace, employees usually have to work overtime

and feel stressed; therefore, when they take some weeks off for vacation, they just

want to rest after long days and they don’t want to spend this time exploring

lifestyles or traditions of local inhabitants. Moreover, nowadays almost resorts are

equipped with modern equipment such as fridges and furniture which make tourists

relaxed and comfortable. Today’s society is developed so they can search

everything they want to know such as the customs and identity of a local area

without asking the help of people there.

In comparison, in the past, travellers wanted to experience all aspects of life and

shared their wonderful time while they stayed with a local community.

Furthermore, they also wanted to understand the local cultural diversity there.

Another difference is that some old resorts were not able to provide all necessary

services such as food and drink for tourists so they prefered going outside to enjoy

local cuisine directly and taking part in new activities to staying inside. Thus, they

were closer to locals and knew more about their life.

In conclusion, tourism nowadays is different from in the past. Although staying

in resorts throughout the period of holiday time is really relaxed and safe, I still

support the idea that travellers should spend time communicating with local

residents and discovering new cultures.
