2024 BMW X5 release date

The current generation BMW X5 went into production in late 2018 and is still sold largely unchanged. However, a major refresh is planned for sometime next year and we have a new video showing the large SUV being unloaded from a car carrier. While the prototype is still camouflaged, this footage shows the machine from all angles and reveals it has a new powertrain under the hood.

If you pay closer attention, you will surely notice the chrome quad exhaust pipes at the back and the M-style side mirrors. These two design characteristics are a giveaway that this X5 is from the upcoming M60i guise, which will replace the outgoing M50i in the current X5. While the information surrounding it is not official yet, we have a pretty good idea of what’s hiding under the hood.

Sharing its powertrain with the new X7 M60i, the new warm SUV positioned below the fully-fledged X5 M will feature BMW’s S68 engine. This is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, which in this application will be supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. An eight-speed automatic gearbox and an xDrive all-wheel-drive system will channel 530 horsepower (389 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque to all four wheels.

You’ll be able to easily recognize the refreshed X5 from the pre-facelift model thanks to the 2024 X5’s new grille design and slimmer headlights. Reshaped bumpers and air intakes, as well as other tweaks – likely also including new wheel designs – will also be part of the new X5 styling. The interior won’t be left untouched too and the biggest change we expect to see is the company’s latest infotainment system with curved display and the iDrive 8 software.

Refreshed BMW X5 Family Spied:

Interestingly, the X5 M is expected to carry over without electric assistance in the engine bay. This means the 4.4-liter V8 engine will most likely continue to offer the same output of 617 hp (560 kW) in the Competition trim. We don’t know when the refreshed X5 family will debut but it will likely become available in Europe first before hitting the US market for the 2024 model year.

2024 BMW X5 release date

The big redesign of the 2024 BMW X5 is a hot topic. The upcoming model for 2023 is not out with notable changes, meaning the following version is about to bring a lot more updates. It is still early to talk about details. By checking the rest of the lineup, we can assume that the new X5 might get a bigger front grille. Also, the interior is going to be under revision. The infotainment system needs updates to catch up with its main rivals, Mercedes MBUX and Audi’s MMI.

The X5 is the flagship model and it always presents the novelties the German company is developing. So, we are going to see the performance 2024 BMW X5 M version with more than 600 horsepower. Still, the X6seems more suitable for this configuration with its sporty appearance. Also, the X5 45e PHEV model is a powerful hybrid. Further upgrades on this system are also possible. The final stage of evolution is an all-electric version. That will be the new iX5.

We were investigating rumors about the luxury SUV. Here is what fans and experts want to see from the 2024 BMW X5.

Standard Edition

The SUV is a mid-size luxury model. So, the offer starts with a turbocharged I6 engine and the RWD. It won’t impress you with its performance, delivering only 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Still, the SUV can accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The time drops with a V8 under the hood. The gas mileage of this I6 model is pretty decent. The X5 xDrive40i can return 21/26 mpg. This number can go up if the redesign comes with lighter materials in the body.

2024 BMW X5 M Performance

The base configuration is not so special and that kind of performance wouldn’t make the SUV as famous as it is. To get the best of the 2024 BMW X5, you will need a V8 engine. The M50i setup is tuned to burst 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It improves everything and engineers had to install special parts to handle such power. Suspensions, damping system, brakes and larger wheels are making the ride smoother, safer, and more comfortable.

The 2024 BMW X5 M is an ultimate upgrade with outputs of 600 hp and 553 lb-ft. That is not all, since the Competition package squeezes 17 more ponies from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. If anyone cares, the gas mileage is 13/18 mpg. An eight-speed transmission is standard. The 0-60 mph time is 3.7 sec. The X6 M coupe SUV is even faster and stops the clock at 3.5.

The plug-in hybrid is also a very interesting configuration. We mentioned X5’s close sibling, the coupe SUV X6. Those two are sharing a lot of features, but not the PHEV system. That is exactly what the X6 is missing – a setup between the base and the M model.

The 2024 BMW X5 45e with the xDrive is cracking up 389 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. It also uses the xDrive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Since it is the plug-in hybrid, the SUV is capable of driving by using only electric power. The range is 31 miles, which is pretty respectable result, having in mind the size and weight of the BMW X5 45e. The configuration also delivers a nice performance. The 0-60 mph time is 4.7 sec, which is faster than the standard xDrive40i. All the engines require premium fuel for the best outputs.

Redesign Changes, Interior, Colors

There are no details about the update, but we assume the 2024 X5 will deliver a fresh styling. It is time for the mid-cycle revisit, after five years in the market. We expected the redesign in 2023, but the upcoming model is coming unchanged. So, there is no way BMW is going to miss updating the SUV for the 2024 season, especially having in mind growing competition.

Not only the exterior but also the interior of the big rig is getting new details. The X5 is a three-row SUV. You can also buy a two-row version and improve room for passengers and cargo. The maximum towing capacity is 7,200 pounds. Like every other big update, the 2024 BMW X5 redesign comes with a fresh color palette and unique upgrades for the M Performance vehicles.

The premiere of the SUV won’t happen before mid-2023 and sales start closer to the final quarter of the year. The price will be higher and everything depends on the level of upgrades the X5 is bringing.
