Why is my Serato not playing?

Just reinstalled Windows and installed Serato again as well as the drivers for my DDJ-SX2. However, when I connect my controller, Serato lets me use my controller to navigate through songs and load them to a deck, but pressing the play button on my controller does nothing, and the jog wheel doesn't move me through the track. If I try to manually click the waveform with my mouse it won't move through the track either. The problem is definitely Serato specific because I tried it with Virtual DJ and it worked fine. I tried downgrading from the newest version of Serato to 1.7, the one I used before I reinstalled Windows, but the problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: Turns out I'm just dumb lol. I enabled DVS as well since I have a turntable I use sometimes and forgot to change the setting on each deck in Serato from ABS to INT, so Serato was trying to play from a device that didn't exist. Clicked INT on both decks and it worked great. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot, people who commented.

Ever wondered why Serato makes you plug speakers in to your controller to be able to hear anything? Ever wished you could sometimes not bother, and just plug your controller in and DJ with your laptop speakers?

Whether it’s because you have a small controller and like to travel with it, or you have some great speakers already attached to your laptop and you don’t see why you can’t use them, it is something many people have wished for – and as of Serato DJ Pro 2.4, it has arrived.

How to play Serato through your laptop speakers

There are three things you need:

  1. You need to have your controller plugged in – Unless you’re using Serato Play (the Expansion Pack that lets you DJ with Serato using just the laptop and keyboard, in which case it automatically uses the laptop speakers), this step is essential
  2. You need to be running Serato DJ Pro 2.4 or newer – This was only introduced in Serato DJ Pro 2.4
  3. You need to have your laptop speakers set as the default audio output device on your computer – Unless you want to use other speakers that are attached via an audio interface, for instance – in which case, they ought to be selected

Once you’re sure of all of those things, it’s as simple as going to the Settings, then Audio, then ticking the new box under Audio Output that says “Use Laptop Speakers”.

That’s it – finally, you can DJ with your controller without having to plug speakers into the controller itself.

Why won t my music play on Serato?

Check to see if the file is an audio file. If the files extension has been changed, it may be recognized as a problem File. E.g an image file with an audio format extension. Check the size of the file is too big - Serato Studio does not support files that are 2GB or larger.

Why isn t my controller working on Serato?

Make sure your controller is powered, try using a different USB cord and plugging into a different USB cord, try connecting to another computer and see if it works. That none of your buttons/knobs/faders are sending the same Data (in the Data column).

Why is my Serato not connecting?

Conflicting audio drivers Having other audio devices connected (especially other soundcards/interfaces) can conflict with connected Serato DJ controllers and may result in no connection. Unplug any other audio devices, uninstall or disable any other audio drivers in the Device Manager and remember..

Why does Serato say failed to connect to audio?

The message [Error: Failed to connect audio!!] is shown, or the virtual deck disappears immediately on the Serato DJ Pro screen. The installation of the driver software may be incomplete or the connection may be causing a problem. 1. Close Serato DJ Pro and disconnect the DDJ-REV7 from your computer.
