After running a Trend Micro Home Network Security scan, you might see devices connected to your network you cannot identify. Make sure your home is secure with these easy steps.

Look up the MAC Address depending on device type

Learn how to identify and match the device mac address shown in the Home Network Security app with the mac address on the device.

  1. Take note of your device MAC Addresses.
    Identify if the device belongs to your household through your devices' unique number called MAC address:
  2. Check if it matches with what is shown in the Home Network Security app:
    1. Open the Trend Micro Home Network Security app.
    2. Tap the Menu icon.
    3. Tap Devices, select the device, look for the MAC ID.
    4. Check if it matches any of your devices' MAC addresses.
      Trend Micro recommends removing unknown devices from your network.

Prevent unknown devices from connecting to your network

  • Scan your home network
  • Update your default Wi-Fi SSID
  • Update your Wi-Fi password with a stronger one
  • Enable New Device Approval
  • Disable WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) through your router’s admin console

If you’re experiencing any of the following issues, try the troubleshooting steps below:

  • The Google Home app can’t find your Google Nest or Home speaker, display or Cast device(s) when attempting to set up your device.
  • Your Cast device isn’t showing up as an available device when casting from an app.

Step 1. Make sure Local Network Access is enabled 

  1. On your iOS device’s home screen (iOS 14 or later), tap Settings
  2. Tap Privacy
    This app will be able to discover and connect to devices on the networks you use
    Local Network. You’ll find a list of apps.
  3. Turn on Local Network Access for the app(s) you would like to allow access to your network. This will allow permissions for your device to discover Cast-enabled devices.

Step 2. Complete the initial checklist

Make sure your device is:

  1. Nearby (within 20 feet).
  2. Plugged into a wall outlet.
  3. Powered on. The LED light on the side or back of the device will be white.

Step 3. Verify settings 

  1. Unlock your iPhone
  2. Tap Settings
    This app will be able to discover and connect to devices on the networks you use
    Wi-Fi.
  3. Connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast, TV or speaker with Chromecast built-in, Google Home, or TV or speaker with the Assistant. Look for something like GoogleHomeXXXX or ChromecastXXXX.
  4. Navigate back to the Google Home app.

Step 4. Complete the setup steps for your device

  1. Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra
  2. Chromecast Audio
  3. Google Nest or Home speaker or display
  4. TV with Chromecast built-in
  5. Speaker with Chromecast built-in
