New York Road Runners (NYRR)—the marathon’s presenting organization—has a long-standing history of partnering with both local and national nonprofits to raise valuable funds through charity races. As a Charity Partner of the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon, Destination Imagination of New York has been granted five marathon entries. In addition to receiving guaranteed marathon entry, Destination Imagination of New York team runners will receive an exclusive team shirt and a customized thank you gift from our local participants. Destination Imagination of New York will also cover the race registration fees for all its runners. Running with a Charity Partner is one of the only ways to enter the TCS New York City Marathon without having a qualifying time or winning a lottery number. NYRR requires each runner to raise $2,500 for their charity team. Destination Imagination of New York will offer fundraising platforms and tools (including a team and personal haku page) and promotion on their social media and at their New York State events. All funds raised from the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon will be put towards sustaining and growing the Destination Imagination of New York program. The TCS New York City Marathon is one the largest and one of the most popular marathons in the world and getting into it can be almost as hard as running it. The 2023 New York City Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023, but you need to plan way ahead of that (even before you have to start your training!) to secure your entry. There are several ways to get into the New York City Marathon: through their drawing, through guaranteed entry, or through their charity program. How to Apply for the New York City Marathon LotteryThe New York Road Runners (who organize the marathon) will hold a lottery drawing for the 2023 New York City Marathon. The application period for the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon will take place from February 8 through February 22, 2023. A drawing for accepted entries will follow on March 1, 2023. The drawing is free to enter and limited to one entry per person. Entry fees are charged upon acceptance. Once an entrant is accepted, the entry fee is nontransferable under any and all circumstances, and is also nonrefundable under any and all circumstances except in the event of cancellation of the marathon. How to Get into the New York City Marathon Through the Charity ProgramRunning for a charity not only provides you with guaranteed entry to the New York City Marathon, but it also gives you an opportunity to change lives and give back to your community. The New York City Marathon’s charity program offers runners guaranteed entry and a chance to give back to the community. You just commit to raising money for any of the charities listed on the marathon website and you’ll be guaranteed a race entry. Is there a lottery for NYC Marathon?The Drawing
The non-guaranteed entry drawing helps preserve the diversity of the race. Runners who do not have guaranteed entry to the race can apply to the non-guaranteed general entry drawing between February 8 and February 22, 2023, and the drawing for these entries will take place on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
How much does it cost to enter the NYC Marathon lottery?From Feb. 8 to Feb. 22, anybody can enter the lottery, and the New York Road Runners, which organizes the race, will select the lucky winners on March 1. Pay the entry fee ($295 for U.S. runners who are not members of the Road Runners) and you're in.
When should you start fundraising for a marathon?Start early.
Generally, racers who start fundraising seven to nine months before race day raised more than those who start later. Even still, expect most of your donations in the four months before your race.
