O'Neil. All rights reserved. What determines one's genotype? An individual's genotype is the combination of alleles that they possess for a specific gene. An individual's phenotype is the combination of their observable characteristics or traits. While an organism's genotype is directly inherited from its parents, phenotype is merely influenced by genotype.
How is genotype measured?Estimates of the genotype frequencies are obtained by counting the number of individuals with a specific genotype. Estimates of the means of the measured single-locus genotypes are given by the average values of individuals sharing the same genotype.
