Police in Arizona say a mother was under the influence of marijuana when she put her five-week-old infant on the roof of her car and drove away.

According to CNN Affiliate KTVK, 19-year-old Catalina Clouser was taken into custody on Saturday morning and charged with aggravated DUI and child abuse after she drove from a friend’s home around 1:00 a.m. and forgot that her child was in a car seat atop the vehicle.

The five-week-old child was discovered in the middle of an intersection in the car seat. Police say the infant was not injured.

According to the report, Clouser had been smoking marijuana with her boyfriend earlier in the evening at a park. She and her boyfriend then decided to drive and purchase some beer. The couple and the infant hopped into a car and headed to a local store.

While driving to the store the boyfriend was pulled-over and arrested on a DUI charge.

According to the report, Clouser became upset over the boyfriend’s arrest and went to a friend’s home to smoke more marijuana. Clouser took the infant with her to the home.

Around 1:00 a.m. Clouser decided to leave the home and placed the infant in the car seat atop her vehicle as she entered her car. The report says that Clouser then drove away, forgetting the infant on the roof of the vehicle.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A St. Pete woman was accused of driving drunk with an infant and a toddler in the car when she was pulled over for speeding on Thursday.

According to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Sierra Villarreal, 28, was pulled over at 12:32 a.m. in Pinellas Park after deputies clocked her speed at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

She showed signs of intoxication and performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the arrest report stated. Her breath alcohol content tested at 0.117 and 0.106.

According to the arrest report, Villarreal told deputies she drank a White Claw alcoholic seltzer and a shot of tequila “and was currently a four on an impairment scale of zero to ten.”

The children, identified by deputies as a one and two year old, were in Villarreal’s SUV at the time of the traffic stop, according to PCSO. She was charged with two counts of child neglect and DUI with a minor in the vehicle.

A 19-year-old Arizona mother who police say left her 5-week-old baby strapped in a car seat atop her car roof and drove off is under arrest on child abuse and aggravated DUI charges, Phoenix-area media reported Saturday.

The child, found in the middle of the road, was "perfectly OK," said Officer James Holmes, Phoenix police spokesman, told The Arizona Republic.

The car seat was damaged, Holmes told TV station KTVK.

The baby is in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services, officials said.

At about 1 a.m. Saturday, police got calls from the area near North 45th Avenue and West Cholla Street in northwest Phoenix that a baby was in a car seat in the middle of a road, The Arizona Republic reported.

Phoenix Fire Department officials found the baby and took him to a local hospital, officials said.

Holmes told reporters that the mother, Catalina Clouser, had apparently been smoking marijuana late Friday night at a nearby park with her boyfriend.

About 11 p.m. they left the park to buy some beer, and the boyfriend was arrested on aggravated DUI charges while on the way, Holmes told The Republic.

An upset Clouser then reportedly went to a friend's house, where police say she admitted smoking more marijuana, Holmes said. Clouser left the house with the baby asleep in the car seat about midnight, he said.

Before driving away, Clouser apparently forgot that she had left her child sitting on the roof of her car, Holmes said.

Clouser realized the baby was missing when she reached home, and started calling friends to look for him and retrace her route, KTVK reported.

The friends ran into the officers who were investigating after the baby was found, and when Clouser arrived, she was arrested, KTVK reported.

When one woman was arrested for drunk driving in Florida recently, troopers were surprised to find her 5-month old child strapped into the back seat of the car. They discovered the baby after she hit another drive head-on, sideswiped another car, and was helped out of her car by a passer-by who called 911.

When troopers arrived they noted that she smelt of alcohol and failed two field sobriety tests. After they escorted her to the squad car, she began screaming that she couldn’t go to jail and that she needed to breastfeed her son. That’s when she kicked the trooper who was trying to arrest her.

A charge of drunk driving in Florida will net any offender possible jail time, a drivers license suspension, fines, and if and when they receive the privilege to drive again, an ignition interlock for a period of time. In this case, because the offender was already on probation and she was drunk driving with her child in the back seat of the car, she’ll likely receive even stiffer penalties. On top of the driving under the influence charge, she could also be charged with child endangerment.

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone did the right thing and choose a sober driver after they’ve been drinking? Or, at the very least, never took their innocent children along for the ride if they decided to put their keys in the ignition and drive anywhere.
