Can my PC run Sony Vegas Pro 17?

Please check your information again - in the title line you write about Vegas Pro and in the text about Movie Studio.
Is there a Movie Studio Edit version - or did you make a mistake there?

No. My circumstances: I upgraded to Movie Studio 17. It would not function on my computer. Support asked for my computer specs and informed me that they were not adequate for 17. They sent me Movie Studio 18. (It must be a downgrade because it does work on my computer but I do not like it at all after years of using Vegas. ) I am now looking to find (even an old version) of Vegas Pro Edit that I can use. I have seen video tutorials that show me the format is the same as I have used and I believe it will be easy to learn. So, hence one comment on my problem with Movie Studio's change and my desire to find a version of Vegas Pro Edit that will work with my computer.

These are the specs to my (working fine) 5 year old laptop. Thanks for your interest and comment.

@Pamela-Ayres, Movie Studio 18 is not a VEGAS product. It's a different Magix video editor. Movie Studio 17 was the last VEGAS Movie Studio version. The upgrade to Movie Studio 17 would be VEGAS Pro 19. I see nothing on your screenshot that would prevent it from working. My laptop is well over 5 years old and VEGAS Pro 13 through 19 are all working fine on this system.

Here's the VEGAS Pro 17 requirements (Movie Studio 17 should be similar):

You have stirred my hope. I have been staring at the email sent to me by Vegas tech support and looking at the specs on my HP and remain puzzled--partly because I cannot see (ignorance) the issue with the core they talk about. BUT my experience with 17 remains that I installed it and it would hang up and never open. I reinstalled it and had the same problem. If you can look at this .jpg I have created with their email and my specs and help me understand (even find a work around) I would be grateful.

Boy, do I see that and there is no tutorials for it. I did hear from Magix that it mirrors what they are calling Movie Studio 2020-2022 but there are just not the perks of Vegas. I will work through the comment from vkmast. I sent him something to look at and I appreciate the understanding to just jump in and try the free trial if using what I have does not work. Thanks

It's more modern software with a better made rendering engine. It's better for high end and low end computers, but if you don't like it's UI or features and don't want to adapt then it's no good for you no matter how much more efficiently it runs on your system

@Pamela-Ayres, I looked into this for you and I want to apologize.

Unfortunately, you contacted the MAGIX customer service team instead of the VEGAS team. They are very different. So your ticket was handled by someone who seems to have a different opinion of the quality of Movie Studio 18 and VEGAS Movie Studio 17 than I do. It is a confusing situation at best and you seem to have gotten caught in the middle of it. They also gave you incorrect information about the minimum system requirements and your computer's ability to handle our software, as has been pointed out by your fellow users here.

I'm very sorry for this.

In the future, please make sure to reach out to the VEGAS Customer Service team with your VEGAS Movie Studio or VEGAS Pro questions. You'll get much more acurate responses in regards to your VEGAS product.

@gary-rebholz Hi, looking at the amount of posts on here & the Magix forum, I hope you mention this 'confusing situation' between Magix & Vegas Movie Studio to Magix when you're in touch with them, I think i would be quite annoyed if i updated/upgraded & ended up getting a very different program, when i upgrade i never download the trial version, i just expect some improvements & maybe some additional features to the program i already have.

@Former user my understanding is that the VEGAS team leaders have been working to solve this "confusing situation" and MAGIX is fully aware of the problem. Hopefully we will see some changes in the near future.

@vkmast Yeah i did think that this would be hard to ignore or miss, i wonder why it ever came to this in the first place, did no one in the Magix office meetings say, 'if we change the product but keep almost the same name, then offer upgrades without a massive warning'....🤦‍♂️ Yeah i understand i was just putting my pennies worth in 😉

John-Dennis, Your answer has sent me on the proper search. I have learned about cores. The SSD drive you recommend can replace but not supplement in my laptop. I will need to go to a local computer shop to see if it is possible to upgrade my processor to 4 cores, even if I replace the HD with an SSD. I have reinstalled 17 and get the same hang up. Even though the majority of helpers here agree that I have the specs, the missing element seems to be the missing 2 cores. I will continue looking into the things I have learned on the forum. My alternatives seems to be to continue with MS 14 or buy a new computer (which is not possible right now). Thanks a heap.

@Pamela-Ayres Hi, unless you have a friend who can do the replacement of the CPU (cores) cheap, i'd keep what you have for now, what you pay a PC shop + the CPU might be similar to the price of a new PC, & computer technology evolves so fast that pc's are 'out of date' within a couple of yrs, so even if you do replace the CPU it might not be worth it because everything else in your computer will be 'old'. 😕

:-) Thanks, friend. I had considered that angle. Sigh. I have fought a good fight to keep up with technology and keep out of debt. I will most likely continue with Version 14 until..... But the help I have received in the forum has guided me in exploring all options.
