Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest generation of its one of its best-selling models – the GLC SUV. The next-gen 2023 GLC represents a big improvement over its predecessor in several ways, making it an enticing offering from the German premium carmaker. Just as the previous-generation GLC had an AMG GLC 63 version, the next-gen SUV will also have its own and HotCars’ sister publication TopSpeed managed to get some spy shots.

Next-Gen GLC Exterior With AMG Elements

The 2023 Mercedes GLC is a major step over its predecessor, both on the exterior and in the interior. With that in mind, the AMG GLC 63 should retain most of its looks. TopSpeed spied the AMG GLC 63 with some camouflage covering various sections and the remaining elements blacked out. As spied, the AMG GLC 63 does retain several features distinct to the GLC. This includes the shape of its headlights and the taillights as well as a beefier and more muscular body.

Spy shots from TopSpeed reveal the AMG GLC 63 featuring the typical AMG styling. These include AMG elements such as massive Panamericana grille, wider lower intake grille, and stylish side vents. It seemed to ride a set of 20-inch, 20-spoke alloy wheels. Other differences from the GLC include a roof spoiler, an aggressive rear bumper, and the quad-exhaust tips.

Electrifying Power On The Horizon

When previous AMG GLC 63 arrived, it did so with a bang. Its monstrous twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine can deliver 469 hp of max output and 479 lb-ft of peak torque. It's monstrous enough to send the previous AMG GLC 63 sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in mid-3 seconds.

Nevertheless, the next-gen GLC changes the power game. Mercedes has so far confirmed that its new GLC will feature electrification of some sort, either as a mild hybrid or a plug-in hybrid SUV. With electrification on the horizon for the GLC, the same system should also penetrate AMG’s more powerful offerings. The AMG GLC 63 should feature a potent electrified engine although it is unknown the level of electrification it would bring to the high-performance game.

Modern Interior With AMG Steering And Bucket Seats

TopSpeed also managed to spy the interior of the AMG GLC 63. Just like the GLC, the AMG GLC 63 comes with a modern-looking dashboard with an 11.9-inch infotainment central display and a 12.3-inch multi-information display in front of the driver. Of course, there’s the flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel and the AMG bucket seats. As the release date gets closer, Mercedes will reveal more concrete information.

Mercedes is readying the next-generation GLC, which includes the hotter AMG variant, too. It’s been conspicuously absent out in public until now. A new batch of spy shots from near the Nurburgring captured the high-performance crossover out testing. It wears a full-body camouflage wrap like the regular GLCs we’ve seen, though the camo can’t hide AMG’s trademark styling touches that reveal the model’s performance attributes.

AMG’s Panamericana grille is front and center, but it’s just one of several noticeable AMG features that are visible. At the rear, the performances brand’s trademark quad-exit exhaust sits tucked under a camouflage rear bumper. Non-AMG GLCs have a black-plastic rear bumper. The AMG GLC also sports a lowered ride height, which only helps to emphasize the bigger wheels and brakes. The wider side sills are also visible, camouflage or not.

The next-gen GLC will share its underpinnings with the latest C-Class, which means the two AMG variants will likely share their powertrains. The next C63 AMG, a plug-in hybrid, will use the company’s M139 turbocharged 2.0-liter paired to a potent electric motor. The car’s combined output would be 643 horsepower (480 kilowatts), which should also find its way into the AMG GLC. The current-generation GLC sports a twin-turbocharged V8 that makes just 469 hp (349 kW).

Check Out The Other GLC Spy Shots:

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC should debut, though it’s unclear if the hotter AMG variant will break cover at the same time. The AMG GLC could debut later, which is often the case with the company’s performance models. If that’s what Mercedes plans to do, then we don’t expect the automaker to reveal the performance model until late next year for the 2023 model year. We’ll get a good look at the car’s design and interior when Mercedes introduces the regular GLC models in the coming months, previewing the AMG variant.
