How to Embed Someone's Name Into a Facebook Status

Whenever you post a status update on your Facebook profile, you can tag the Facebook users you are with. Tagging a Facebook user embeds them into the post so that clicking on their name takes you to their profile. It is one of the many features Facebook has implemented to encourage interaction between users. Previously, friend tagging was performed by simply typing the user's name in the update or using the "@" symbol. Now, however, there is a dedicated button used to embed Facebook users in your status updates.

Open a Web browser and navigate to Facebook.com. Type your Facebook account login credentials in the spaces provided and click the "Login" button to log in to your Facebook account.

Click the "Update Status" link at the top of your Facebook home page.

Type your Facebook status update in the space provided.

Click the "Add Friends" button in the bottom left corner of the status update box.

Type the name of the Facebook user that you want to embed in the post in the space labeled "Who are you with?" Select the Facebook user from the list of results to add them to the post.

Click the "Post" button to post the status update.
